Quill and Scroll, an international journalism honorary organization gives special recognition to a select group of capable students who have done superior work in some phase of journalism or school publications and who have contributed time, energy and enthusiasm to further the cause of the school journalism program. Quill and Scroll was organized at Southport High School November 8, 1945, with a charter from the international headquarters. Quill and Scroll is open to juniors or seniors who rank in the upper third of their class scholastically and who demonstrate a superior ability in writing, editing, business management or production. The candidate for membership must have shown outstanding character and a keen interest in journalism and a willingness to work on school publications. Each candidate is recommended by the faculty advisor and approved by the international headquarters. Members pay no dues, but there is an initiation fee.
