Last week we trained and welcomed our newest group of Peer Mediators. Southport High School’s Peer Mediators program is a group of trained juniors and seniors who help resolve conflict among their peers. Students are nominated by staff members and attend a half-day training. Peer Mediator training discusses student perception, bullying vs conflict, and peaceful conflict resolution strategies. Students leave with resources to work through peer conflict. When a conflict is turned over to the mediation program, two mediators work together to help the recommended students in need to solve their conflict in a peaceful environment. We have had many successful mediations to date!
