Fourth graders at HB will spend much of January investigating fractions.  Recently, they used pattern blocks to examine how changing the size of the whole will change the value of each block. For example, on a small shape the red trapezoid was worth one-half, but on a larger shape, it was worth one-fourth. This activity helped students develop their conceptual understanding of fractions.
