To correlate with studies of dictionary skills, second grade students at Douglas MacArthur Elementary School participated in a “Vocabulary Hat Parade”.  Students chose an unfamiliar word from the dictionary.  They learned the meaning of the word and wrote a sentence using the new vocabulary word.  Hats were decorated to represent the student’s newly learned word.  All second grade classes paraded around the school and gymnasium before sharing their hats, definitions, and sentences in front of their audience of peers.
