Eighteen seventh and eighth grade student council members from Perry Meridian Middle School volunteered at Gleaners Food Bank. They had the opportunity to learn about the mission and history of the organization. This was also an opportunity for the students to understand how many people in our community are in need of basic necessities. The students worked for three hours sorting donated food, checking for expiration dates and damaged packages. Gleaners set a goal for the students to sort 8,000 pounds of food. The students surpassed that goal by sorting 13,219 pounds! This experience was a great bonding experience for the student leaders and many of them are now inspired to continue doing more volunteer work.
