This year marks the 8th annual Metric 500 races at Southport Middle School. Student groups wrote letters to teacher sponsors, who represented non-profit organizations, performed tasks for their sponsor, and obtained finances to purchase materials for the race. Students then designed the cars, teachers cut them out, and students finished sanding and painting them according to specifications. Measurements and rules were followed and those who met all requirements could win the race. The top time all day was our winner on the 60 foot dragster track.
