SOUTHPORT HIGH SCHOOL TO HONOR ITS ALL-TIME INDIANA ALL-STAR BASKETBALL PLAYERS
“Six of Southport High Schools 12 Indiana Basketball All-Stars Scheduled to Attend Ceremony”
INDIANAPOLIS, Historic Southport Fieldhouse
January 29, 2016– Southport High School will honor 6 of its 12 Indiana basketball All-Stars during a ceremony at the schools January 29th home basketball game. Tickets for the event which includes the ceremony JV and Varsity games are just $5 dollars at the door. The four men and two women played on Cardinal Teams from 1962 to 1993. Three of the schools twelve who became Indiana All-Stars have passed away, another three will not be able to attend. Southport’s first All-Star dates back to 1939.
“This is going to be a wonderful night to remember these men and women who worked so hard to bring recognition, pride and tradition to this great high school”, stated Southport Principal, Barbra Brouwer.
The ceremony, which will include hanging a banner in the rafters of The Historic Southport Fieldhouse, will take place at approximately 7:00 pm following the JV game prior to the start of the Varsity game against Columbus North. Following the ceremony the All-Stars will sign autographs and reminisce with fans on the upper level of the Fieldhouse. Alumni are invited to the game and to the party afterward. Hall of Fame coaches Marilyn Ramsey and Bill Springer will also be there supporting their former players.
