Burkhart’s 9-day Artist in Residence with stained glass window artist, Rita Wrighton is underway. This is our fifth time to have Mrs. Wrighton come to Burkhart to work with our third, fourth, and fifth grade boys and girls.  We believe this is a unique cultural/arts opportunity for our boys and girls.
Mrs. Wrighton works with our art teacher, Melody Penish and with quite a few parent and community volunteers to make this project work.  This year the three windows being created are on the themes of Art, Music, and Physical Education.  Students created simple images in art class and those images are then sent to Mrs. Wrighton who takes quite a few of the images and incorporates them the window design. Based on a three-day rotation, students will cut the glass (3 days), then put copper foil around the perimeter of each individual piece (3 days), and then during the third rotation solder the pieces into place (3 days). Student work in the mornings from 9:00 – 11:40 a.m.  It is quite a process.  This project will take place through October 8.
