Mrs. Amy Lewis’ kindergarten at Mary Bryan Elementary School completed a unit on bedtime stories, including “The Napping House,” and “Goodnight Moon.” The class engaged in several math and literacy activities around this theme. They solved tan gram puzzles of the napping house, adding the # of feet in the napping house, identifying rhymes, and sequencing events in the stories. During a writing task, the children brainstormed a list of things people do to get ready for bed. One student shared that he has a “dream catcher.” The students became very curious about dream catchers so the group researched the legend behind them. Then everyone made a dream catcher to take home and hang above their bed to “catch” the bad dreams!
