Tuesday November 10th, Southport High School’s Counseling department hosted a college and career day by attending the Construction Career Workforce Symposium at the Indiana State House.  There was a career fair where they were introduced to the building trades learning about a host of career options. They also participated in panel discussions where they heard from different young adults working in or going to college to learn to work in the construction industry. While it was a lot of fun for the students it was also a strong academic opportunity as they learned of the well-paying careers in the skilled trade industries. The students especially enjoyed the hands on activities such as a candy dispensing conveyor belt, creating hockey pucks with cement, reading blueprints, and even building their own marshmallow launchers!
