Second grade students in Mrs. Jane Fletcher’s class at Homecroft Elementary are very “eggcited”!  For the past 22 days, brown chicken eggs have been incubating in their classroom.  The first fuzzy chicks hatched yesterday, followed by 7 hatchlings today (and more “peeps” on the way)!  There are three different breeds of chicks:  Road Island Red, Golden Comet and Partridge Rock.  In addition to the excitement of experiencing the live hatching, the students have been tracking the incubation days on a big calendar, writing compositions about what they are learning about chickens and learning details about the incubation process. The children plan to give each chick a special name.
