Ms. Sarah Laptiste’s EL kindergarten students thank the Southport High School advanced Spanish class for tutoring them again this year.
Ms. Laptiste and Mr. Terry Rice initiated the program eleven years ago to help the growing Hispanic population at Clinton Young Elementary improve their English while providing the advanced Spanish students the opportunity to perfect their listening and speaking skills.
Ms. Laptiste and Mrs. Socorro Romero at Homecroft Elementary provide direction with educational games and hands-on activities for the students every Friday afternoon.  Some of our college-bound advanced students are former EL students who give back by encouraging the young students to improve their English and work hard in school.  Teens and kindergarten students also look forward to sharing time together.
