Students in Mrs. Brooke Shoup’s classroom at Homecroft Elementary have been participating in the PTEF (Perry Township Education Foundation) grant, Fluent Readers at Work. Throughout the school year, the students have listened to fluent readers read high-interest text, recorded themselves reading poems, and self-evaluated their recordings. The final activity was a study of the Shel Silverstein book, Where the Sidewalk Ends. Each student picked a poem to present and was responsible for creating a prop to illustrate the poem. The poems were presented to second graders at Homecroft.
