Indiana First Lady, Karen Pence, visited Rosa Parks Elementary on Friday. It was part of a culminating activity for “Pennies for Patients”, an effort to raise money for the Leukemia Society during the week of April 11th-15th. It was also Global Youth Day.  Students wrote letters to the patients going through Leukemia treatment.  Mrs. Pence helped a 3rd and 4th grade class create a cardinal, the state bird, out of paper to go along with their cards to patients.

She was greeted by Superintendent Dr. Tom Little, Assistant Superintendent, Vickie Carpenter and Principal David Henriott. Mrs. Pence worked on the cardinal project with students in the classrooms of Mrs. Witt and Mrs. Naue.

“It was a great day and Mrs. Pence taught a great impact lesson for our students who were incredibly well mannered and appreciative of her time.  A perfect visit for everyone!” stated principal Henriott.

The First Lady also presented a proclamation to Rosa Parks Elementary for its great work during “Pennies for Patients”.
