Mrs. Calvin’s 4th grade actors at Jeremiah Gray Elementary performed an informational and fun play about Kwanzaa.  JGE students learned that the celebration honors African heritage in African-American culture, and is observed from December 26 to January 1, culminating in a feast and gift-giving.  Each of the seven days of Kwanzaa is dedicated to one of the following principles, as follows:

  • Umoja (Unity)
  • Kujichagulia (Self-Determination)
  • Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility)
  • Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics)
  • Nia (Purpose)
  • Kuumba (Creativity)
  • Imani (Faith)
