Students from Mr. Manning’s class at Southport 6th Grade Academy participated in the Daughters of the American Revolution essay contest. The topic was an essay titled, “A Child’s Journey Through Ellis Island.” Students researched what it was like to immigrate to the United States and what is was like to come through Ellis Island. Using the information they gained, they wrote an essay to a relative back home about their experience.

Lauren Beatty was selected as the Mary Bryan Chapter winner. Her essay was entered into the state competition. Lauren will be honored with a bronze medal at a ceremony at Bethel Community Church.
