Our new principal at Henry Burkhart elementary is not new to that school building. Darlene Hardesty is taking over the reigns there after serving as assistant principal. Ms. Hardesty has degrees from Butler and Ball State. She describes the teamwork in her school is incredible. Ms. Hardesty, who grew up in Napoleon, Indiana stated, “I am proud that Perry Township teaches students to be critical thinkers and exposes them to complex problem solving”. She says she’s excited to see Project Lead the Way pilot at our elementary schools. She began her career as a third grade teacher at Indian Creek Science and Technology Magnet School in Lawrence Township. Next she moved to Perry Township and Burkhart to teach fifth grade. She has been assistant principal since 2012
Ms. Hardesty described the first week of school as follows. “Burkhart students are eager and energetic. I love to see their smiles in the mornings and get hugs and high fives on their way back home. Our students are happy to be here and are learning the routines and procedures of school quickly”. She added the teamwork in her building is incredible! “No job was too big or too small for our staff and everyone pitched in to do something extra so that our school days could run smoothly for the students. Teachers and staff members built each other up and offered encouraging words and some treats that have made the days extra sweet.” She says her heart swells with pride when she thinks about this wonderful group of people who serve as the backbone of this school and the sacrifices they make so our kiddos can have the best education.
