Over the course of a few weeks at Perry Meridian Sixth Grade Academy, students completed a variety of college and career activities using the Learn More Magazine. Activities included learning why college is important, degree options, exploring jobs they are interested in, drafting a simple resume, and getting exposed to options for funding post-secondary school. Several students were randomly selected to win college gear donated by several Indiana colleges!
Students at Perry Meridian Sixth Grade Academy have had a few experiences through their sixth grade year to get them thinking about their future. Mr. Brad Miller and Mrs. Rebecca Shull, counselors from Perry Meridian High School talked to students about high school graduation, students completed an online career interest checklist using IndianaCareerExplorer.com, and Ms. Vance, the school counselor at PMA, presented a classroom guidance lesson on these topics as well. Earlier in the year, students participated in a Career Fair where volunteers from the community came in to share their careers with students.
