“Andy Warhol” visits Glenns Valley to introduce the GV students to his colorful Pop Art. Warhol is recognized as one of the most influential artists of the 20th Century. Since the 1960’s, Warhol has been known worldwide and his artwork is displayed in museums all over the world. His influences still resonate in commercial art, silk screen, fashion, painting and film. He helped develop a non-traditional form of art known as Pop Art. This new art movement shows images that are from mass culture. The word “Pop Art” comes from the word “popular”. Warhol used name brand products from everyday life, such as: Campbell’s soup cans, Coca-Cola bottles, detergent boxes, money, comics and celebrity likenesses. Students in 1st – 5th grade enjoyed learning about Warhol’s colorful compositions and will now be creating their own Pop Art compositions though the art of printmaking.
