Southport 6th Grade Academy’s Team Respect and Mrs. Bastien’s art students played a special part in the induction of the latest recruiting class of 100 officers for our Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Students in Mrs. Goss’s and Mrs. Reinacker’s language arts classes wrote them letters of encouragement and appreciation for the job they are about to do. Mrs. Bastien’s art students made keepsake ornaments for each new officer.

Mrs. Jenny Zotz, a member of the women’s auxiliary, accepted the letters and ornaments. She expressed that these gifts and letters are very important to the new officers. It lets them know that the community appreciates the job they do and gives them courage and strength as they face the challenges each new day brings.

SA says, “Good luck and stay safe Officers!”
