Families entrust us with their child(ren)’s safety and we take that responsibility to heart.
The district will be using the Skylert system to notify all employees and parents of any severe weather delays and school closings. In addition to phone messages, parents may elect to receive email alerts. Notices are posted on the district website, Twitter and Facebook accounts and the local television stations.
In the past there have been instances when school has been closed only to find that a short delay in the start could have changed circumstances dramatically. In some circumstances, the school starting time will be delayed two (2) hours. This will give school officials additional time to evaluate weather and road conditions. The media would be notified of a two-hour delay by 5:15 a.m. on the morning of the delay. The two-hour delay announcement could result in the following:
1. A second announcement by 8:00 a.m. closing school completely,
or
2. An actual delay of school opening by two hours
During inclement weather, every effort will be made to keep school in session. As always, our first concern is for the safety of students and employees. We hope this option will provide more safety for students and a better driving environment for our bus drivers.
NOTE: In the event of a school closing we will make every possible attempt to make that decision the evening before. If the decision is made the morning of the closing, the Skylert system will begin calling employees and parents at 5:15 A.M.
