Eight Southport High School students were guest’s of superintendent, Dr. Thomas Little, Assistant Superintendent Bob Bohannon and Principal Barbara Brouwer Thursday for the annual Student Leader Luncheon. The principal selected the students based on their examples of leadership among their peers. The annual Fall student luncheon gives the superintendent a chance to discuss a wide range of topics with students and gather their input.

All of the teens expressed a lot of pride in their school while at the same time discussing a host of topics they had questions about such as the dress code and ways to get more students out to school and athletic events. The 90-minute “working-lunch” created a list of discussion items administrators and students say they’ll continue to look at.  The group also discussed school safety and security, school start times, block scheduling, the balanced calendar and things they would change or not change about their high school experience. Dr. Little held a similar session on Tuesday with students at Perry Meridian High School.
