After five years as principal of Southport Middle School Mr. Brian Knight has made the transition this year to the new building principal role at Southport High School.  A huge advantage is that Mr. Knight knows the vast majority of students since they previously attended the middle school. “It was great to see kids who passed through the halls at SMS again.  It is always awesome to see how they have grown and progressed as a student.” He shares that he values the diversity and the educational opportunities available to students in this district.

His entire career has been in Perry Township starting as a Chemistry and Physical Science teacher. Mr. Knight, who was born and raised outside Wabash, Indiana, holds degrees from Indiana University.

He says he loves the diversity in the school district,  “We have a wide variety of offerings for our students both academically and extra curricular.  I live in Perry Township for these reasons and send my kids to school in Perry Township to not only get an excellent education, but also to get a real glimpse into society.” He loves visiting the mountains and spent time hiking in the Smoky Mountains this summer. An historical figure he admires is Mahatma Ghandi who said “be the change you wish to see in the world.”

He and his wife Nikki, who teaches at PMHS, are the proud parents of four children; Dagan, Stokes, Auria and Merrick.
