Congratulations to the staff of the Southport High School newspaper (The Journal) for bringing home 12 awards from Ball State University’s High School J-Day Friday, April 22nd.
Collectively, the staff received three major awards. The Journal Rewired website received a Superior award, naming it “Best in Show” for overall content. The website also received an Excellent award for Home Page Design. The print version of the Journal received an Excellent award in Newspaper Overall, placing it in the top three newspapers in the contest.
Six individuals won awards. Niki Smithers won a Superior award for Opinion Writing and an Honorable Mention for Sports Page Design. Excellent awards went to Mark Carlson for Sports Writing and Riley Hyatt for Front Page Design. Riley also won an Honorable Mention for Front Page Design, and other Honorable Mentions went to Destiny Bryant for Feature Writing, Caleb Carrasquillo for Feature Photography, Madeline Hittel for Review Writing and Trinity Cline-Smith for Review Writing.
