On Wednesday, May 20, 2021, Perry Township Schools announced that Homecroft Kindergarten Academy teacher Alison Scott is the district’s 2021 Teacher of the Year. Superintendent Pat Mapes and several administrators surprised Ms. Scott with the award during an outdoor gathering.

A 17-year district employee, Ms. Scott was nominated by her colleagues for her devotion to her students and school. She works hard to build a strong sense of community in her classroom that helps her understand the varied needs of all her students. To help her students excel, she uses many instructional resources and models her thinking, which allows her students to interact with content and experience the lessons.

Ms. Scott spends countless hours planning and scripting her lessons. During the past year, to ensure that her in-person and virtual students receive the same high-quality learning, Ms. Scott would write a script, practice, and record all of her virtual lessons to allow for more time to assist with individual student support.

Ms. Scott plans weekly after-school meetings to collaborate with her team and other teachers to stay updated on the most effective teaching techniques. She attends many district-level trainings, building retreats, and any professional development opportunities. She is always looking for additional ways to improve her instruction and is never afraid to ask questions.

Whether she is instructing her students, sharing her techniques with new teachers, or planning extracurricular programs, Mrs. Scott is always able to interact with everyone in a positive way. She is constantly making Homecroft Kindergarten a better place!

Congratulations, Ms. Scott!
