Dear Perry Township Families,

On the evening of Monday, February 26, Perry Township Schools was alerted by Greenwood Police that social media threats had been made against Southport High School. Our School Police Department, along with Southport Police Department and the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), immediately launched an investigation and tracked down three students believed to be responsible. Police instructed the students and their parents that they were not to return to school, pending the outcome of the investigation. Investigators assured us it was safe to open our schools today.

Today, February 27, Southport Police executed search warrants regarding the case, and School Police arrested the students at their homes based on the findings of their investigation.

Student safety is our highest priority. We want to emphasize that local, state, and federal law enforcement take all threats seriously and investigate each incident. Any student who makes a threat will face consequences including expulsion and/or criminal charges.

Once again, if you see something, we want you to say something. Please report threats or suspicious activity to administrators, teachers, or police.

Sincerely,

Patrick W. Mapes
Superintendent
