Congratulations are in order for Amy Peddie and Michael Heldman. The duo will be recognized at next month’s Southport High’s Alumni Association banquet.

Mrs. Peddie will receive Southport’s Teacher of the Year Award. She has taught in Perry Township for 20 years – the last eleven as a teacher of our English Learning Department. In that role, she helps students transition into their new environment.

Mr. Heldman has been selected as the Alumnus of the Year. He graduated from Southport in 1965. A lifelong southside resident, he worked for 40 years in the mechanical contracting business and retired in 2010. Mr. Heldman also gives back to the community by selflessly working with the Special Olympics to help with fundraising, volunteer management, and making each athlete feel special.

Kudos to both award recipients!
