The James Whitcomb Riley building, also known as JWR, is home to several of the District’s alternative programs for students in grades K-8. Each program housed at JWR is uniquely focused on meeting the needs of students who require additional support beyond traditional programming.
JWR offers the following programs:
Serving 4 Kindergarten Academies and 11 elementary schools, the SOAR program is focused on supporting students who require behavioral intervention. Students participate in our program for short periods of time and then return to their homeschool. JWR teachers and staff work collaboratively with the homeschool in order to support the student in the best way possible.
The CIOP or Continuing Instructional Opportunity Program is offered to students with Individual Education Plans (IEPs) as an alternative to suspension. Students spend time with our staff while completing work organized and sent by the home school.
The Success Academy is a 45 Day Program focused on preparing middle school students for High School. The program is built upon positive emotions, engagement, relationships, meaning and accomplishment. Students are identified by the Middle schools and invited to participate. All students that complete the program will leave with a fully developed “High School Success Plan” that will help guide students to success at the next level.
