Education Background: PMHS ’15 and Purdue University ’19
Why did you want to work for a school district?
I enjoy being a part of a school district that embraces and celebrates diversity.
What goals do you have for your students?
My goal is for my students to enjoy Technology Special – I feel satisfied with my lesson when I hear them exclaiming, “WOAH! That’s so cool!” or “My sister/brother don’t know how to do that.” I love the enthusiasm and excitement I see, even if it is just changing the color and size of a letter.
Name your favorite band or musician.
I am really into Corinne Bailey Rae right now, “Like A Star” has to be my favorite song.
What is something your students might be surprised to learn about you?
I speak both English and Chin, so when they whisper to each other in Chin, I can understand them. However, it pains me when the students correct me with the pronunciation of their Chin names.
Choose one and explain why: Oscar, Olympic gold, or Showcase Showdown.
Olympic Bronze in Swimming – I can’t swim to save my life. It would be a huge accomplishment, even if it were third place.
When you were a kid, what were your career aspirations?
I can’t remember anything else except for being a teacher and a programmer. I would play pretend with my younger cousins and sister, and I was always the teacher. My “Ah-Ha” moment was being in a high school class for peer tutoring, where I helped the students in Mrs. Hurt’s class at Winchester Village Elementary improving their English and Math skills. On top of being a teacher, I wanted to learn more about computers, coming from a place where a TV was the biggest and most innovative technology I’ve seen back then.
Where is the best place you’ve traveled to and why?
In 2018, I traveled to Mizoram, India, and reunited with my maternal grandparents for the first time since moving to the United States. It was a very heartfelt moment to be able to see them again and reconnect.
If you were trapped on a deserted island, what are the three items you would want with you?
Food with a portable gas stove, my camera, and a boat so I can go back to civilization!
What did you do for fun during Quarantine?
My family and I purchased Disney+ and binge-watched a lot of the older shows and new movies together. We baked and cooked a lot. We also renovated our bathroom and bedroom.
What have you learned in the past year?
Life is short. Enjoy the little things as much as you can without any regret!
