We are pleased to announce that William Henry Burkhart Elementary was selected as a finalist for the National Institute for Excellence in Teaching (NIET) Founder’s Award. Henry Burkhart was awarded $10,000 and is one of just five schools in the country in the running for the $50,000 grand prize. The winner will be announced at NIET’s national conference on March 23rd in Indianapolis.

Burkhart is a prime example of how we grow kids in Perry Township. The administration and teachers have made significant efforts to continually improve educator effectiveness by applying the NIET rubric, tools and resources. Burkhart develops teachers into strong professional leaders who increase student success.

In today’s announcement, NIET Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Joshua Barnet, applauded the district stating “Perry Township Schools has been one of the most successful districts in the country in building teacher leadership roles that support a system of high-quality professional learning and coaching. William Henry Burkhart Elementary has established teacher leaders as the focus to support current teachers as well as new teachers to provide students with great classroom teaching and learning.”

We are proud of Principal Darlene Hardesty and all the teachers at Burkhart who work hard every day to educate our students.
