Bullying & Harassment Policy

Student safety is Perry Township Schools top priority, and we take reports of bullying and cyberbullying very seriously. Our administrators respond to reports of bullying and cyberbullying in accordance to the Indiana Department of Education’s guidelines. Reports of bullying should be made consistent with Perry Township Schools Bullying Policy found below.

Dress Code

Perry Township Schools seeks to encourage a safe and positive learning environment that focuses on academic achievement and a sense of community. In order to promote school safety, improve student performance, encourage positive self-esteem, and focus on academic achievement instead of socioeconomic status, Perry Township Schools adopts the following student dress code for all students during the school day:

*Each school may need to make adjustments to its dress code expectations. The school will make every effort to effectively communicate changes to families. 

  1. Hats, head coverings, sunglasses, curlers, or slippers are prohibited. Students with a bona fide religious objection may apply for an exemption.
  2. Clothing and jewelry, which includes depictions or symbols of the following, are prohibited:
    a. sex or sexual innuendo
    b. lewd, vulgar, indecent, or plainly offensive speech, including profanity
    c. violence, destruction of property, or advocating the use of force
    d. urging violation of the law or school regulations
    e. alcohol, drugs, or tobacco
    f. anything which substantially or materially disrupts the school environment

  1. Solid color collared shirt (with sleeves) or turtleneck, tucked in.
  2. Black, khaki, navy or earthtone bottoms, no denim. No overt or distracting holes, rips, cuts, or frays are permitted. (Pants or skirts must be worn at the waist)
  3. Knee-length pants. Shorts may be worn up until Fall Break and after Spring Break.
  4. Dresses, skirts, shorts, and jumpers must be near knee length.
  5. Winter Wear—mostly solid color sweater or sweatshirt allowed; must be over collared shirt or turtleneck; should be an appropriate size.
  6. Student IDs should be worn and made visible at all times.
  7. No flip-flops or “wheelie” shoes. No hooded sweatshirts.
  8. School spirit wear determined by each building.

Cell Phone / Personal Electronic Device Policy

PMMS Personal Electronic Device Policy

Pursuant to Senate Bill 185, and to increase educational focus time, we must encourage the appropriate use of personal electronic devices in our learning community. It is our goal to encourage the use of digital technology to grow the digital literacy of our students while also being mindful of the impact that cell phones and other digital technologies have on our lives. To accomplish positive outcomes and increase school-wide achievement, all students must recognize the responsible use of personal technology and reduce distractions to improve focus and academic outcomes.

Cell phone use during the school day is prohibited. (8:10 am.-2:55 pm M, T, TH, F and 2:30 pm W)
Students will keep their cell phones in their locker.
Bluetooth headphones are prohibited unless permission is granted by the classroom teacher.
All offenses of this policy will be cumulative, not per teacher/class.

If a Cell Phone/Bluetooth Headphones are in use:

1st time→ Teacher will…Collect, power off, label, and lock up in the classroom for the remainder of the period; Document on school shared document; Contact home.
2nd time→ Teacher will…Collect, power off, label, and send to Student Services for the remainder of the day; Document on school shared document; Call home.
Student Services will…Lock up in Student Services for the remainder of the day.
3rd time→ Teacher will…Collect, power off, label, and send to Student Services for the remainder of the day; Document on school shared document.
Student Services will…Lock up in Student Services for the remainder of the day; Call family to pick up the phone.
4th time→ Teacher will…Collect, power off, label, and send to Student Services for the remainder of the day; Document on school shared document; Write an SCR with violation dates.
Student Services will…Lock up in Student Services for the remainder of the day; Call family to pick up the phone; Assign appropriate consequences.

Students are prohibited from using their cell phone to make video recordings at school, without teacher permission or school authorization; to cheat or plagiarize, to bully or haze others, to disrupt the learning environment, to view pornographic, vulgar, or inappropriate content, to post derogatory content on social media sites, or take unsolicited or unwelcome photographs of students, staff, or facilities.
