ATTENDANCE
Southport High School follows Perry Township attendance policies. The information below explains SHS attendance procedures and provides helpful ways for families to communicate with us.
Email Attendance: rfrend@perryschools.org
Helpful for absences, planned appointments, and early release requests known in advance.
Skyward – Add Absence Request
Available at any time for absences and future-dated attendance requests.
Attendance Hotline: 317-789-4820
Available for attendance needs, especially for urgent same-day and early release requests.
Translation Assistance: 317-789-4881
Call this number if you need language assistance.
Families are encouraged to report absences as early as possible, preferably before 9:00 a.m.
Please include:
- Student’s first and last name
- Your name and relationship to the student
- Date of absence
- Student’s date of birth and grade
- Your phone number
- Student ID number, if known
- General reason for the absence
If the Attendance Office has not received communication by 2:45 p.m., you will receive an automated ParentSquare attendance notification.
To help us update records accurately, please report absences directly to the Attendance Office rather than teachers, counselors, or other staff members.
If your student needs to leave early, please contact the Attendance Office as soon as you are able.
When possible, we ask families to provide at least 60 minutes of notice. Early releases take time to verify, process, and coordinate because staff must locate the student, create a pass, and release the student from class.
Requests with limited notice may take longer to process. Students will remain in class until the Attendance Office officially releases them.
If Your Student Feels Sick at School
Students who feel ill during the school day should report to the nurse’s office first. The nurse will contact a parent/guardian if the student needs to go home.
If your student feels sick, please remind them that cell phone use is restricted under state policy and encourage them to visit the nurse so we can provide care and properly release them if needed.
End-of-Day Release Times
To help reduce end-of-day disruptions, we encourage families to submit early release requests before:
- Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 12:45 p.m.
- Wednesday: 12:00 p.m.
Requests received after these times may take longer to process. If you know your student has an appointment, contacting us earlier in the day or the day before is very helpful.
iPass Releases
iPass is part of the school day. Early releases during iPass follow the same process as other early releases.
If your student needs to leave during iPass, contacting the Attendance Office before the daily cutoff time helps us locate and release your student more efficiently.
