Dress Code
PERRY MERIDIAN SIXTH GRADE ACADEMY DRESS CODE
It is the desire of the Perry Township School Board and Perry Meridian Sixth Grade Academy to create a learning environment that focuses on academic achievement and a sense of community. We hope to create an environment for all sixth-grade students that encourages and promotes:
- Positive, healthy self-esteem
- Unity, comradery, and a sense of belonging and purpose
- Character development rather than physical appearance
- Academic challenges versus socioeconomic status
The following is a list of appropriate dress items for Perry Meridian Sixth Grade Academy:
Tops:
- Must be a solid color; no artwork or designs.
- Acceptable tops include:
- Dress shirts with collars
- Long or short sleeved polo shirts with collars
- Turtlenecks with sleeves (long or short)
- Perry Meridian spirit shirts or sweatshirts
- Sweaters or sweatshirts without decorative writing or artwork
- A collared shirt does not need to be worn under sweaters, sweatshirts, or spirit wear t-shirts.
- Except when wearing an appropriate sweater, sweatshirt, or turtleneck, the uniform shirt must always be on the outside.
- Any top that has a full zipper is considered a jacket and cannot be worn during the school day.
Bottoms:
- Must be a solid color; no artwork or designs.
- All pants (including shorts) must be cargo, dress, or regular style pants made from material similar to a pair of “Dockers”.
- All pants (including shorts) must be Khaki, Black, or Navy Blue only; No Denim.
- Sweatpants, jeggings, yoga pants, and athletic type pants are allowed only on relaxed dress code days.
- Shorts, skirts, dresses, or jumpers must be at mid-thigh or below.
- No baggy pants will be allowed. Belts should be worn with pants that have belt loops.
- Shorts may be worn by all students before fall break and after spring break. Shorts should be mid-thigh or below. During the time between the two breaks, all pants must be shoe length.
Shoes: We ask that parents use common sense regarding shoes. Sliders, Flip-flops, or any type of shoes with wheels will not be permitted for the safety of the students.
JACKETS AND HOODED SWEATSHIRTS MAY BE WORN TO SCHOOL BUT ARE NOT TO BE WORN DURING THE SCHOOL DAY. THEY MUST BE PLACED IN THE STUDENT’S LOCKER AFTER ARRIVING AT SCHOOL.
