Grow More Than Plants!

Three greenhouses built by Perry Township students are heading to auction this September, with proceeds benefiting Perry Township teachers and students through the Perry Township Education Foundation.

The greenhouses have a pretty special story behind them.

This summer, middle school girls from Perry Meridian Middle School and Southport Middle School participated in Girls Camp, a hands-on experience that introduced students to careers in architecture, engineering, construction and the skilled trades.

And this was definitely not a watch-someone-else-do-it kind of camp.

Students worked alongside industry professionals to see how a project goes from an idea on paper to something you can actually walk inside. They helped develop designs, worked with blueprints and models, learned to use tools and took part in the construction process.

By the end of the experience, they had helped build three full-size, functional greenhouses.

The project gave students a chance to try something new, work through problems together and learn skills they could use well beyond the camp. It also gave them a firsthand look at career fields where women are still underrepresented.

Now, the greenhouses they worked so hard to build are ready for new homes.

Student-Built Greenhouses Up for Auction

All three greenhouses will be auctioned individually through Christy’s Auction.

Bidding opens Thursday, September 17 at 9:00 a.m.

Anyone interested in adding a greenhouse to their home, garden, school, business or community space can bid, while also supporting opportunities right here in Perry Township.

Proceeds from the greenhouse auction will benefit teachers and students throughout Perry Township Schools through the Perry Township Education Foundation.

So yes, you could end up with a pretty great greenhouse.

But you’ll also be helping one student project grow into more opportunities for students and teachers across Perry Township.
