Starting kindergarten is an exciting milestone! We know you may have a lot of questions as you prepare your child for their first day of school, and we are here to help every step of the way.
Below, you will find answers to the most common questions from kindergarten parents. If you do not see what you are looking for, feel free to contact your child’s school directly. They will be happy to assist!
You can use our interactive Kindergarten Boundary Map to determine which kindergarten academy your child will attend based on your home address.
Your child must turn 5 years old on or before August 1 to enroll for the upcoming school year. If your child turns 5 between August 2 and August 15, you may request a waiver. Please contact your school for more details.
The first day of school for the 2025–26 school year is Wednesday, July 30, 2025.
No, There are no tuition fees for kindergarten in Indiana public schools.

Yes, families living outside of Perry Township may apply through our Non-Resident-Transfer-Request-2025-26 process. Please note: transportation must be provided by the parent/guardian, and no bus service is available for out-of-district students.
You’ll need:
1. Birth certificate
2. Immunization records
3. Proof of address (e.g., utility bill with parent/guardian name)
You can upload documents online or drop them off at your child’s kindergarten academy building. Documents must be submitted before the first day of school.
There is no official cutoff date. However, early enrollment is strongly encouraged so you don’t miss important meetings and allows time for class placement and transportation planning. If you enroll your child in April, they will be eligible to attend Jump Start, which is a free, four-day program that gives your little one a sneak peek into kindergarten before their first day of school!
Yes, Perry Township Schools follow a dress code:

Solid color collared shirt (with sleeves) or turtleneck (tucked in)

Black, khaki, navy, or earth-tone bottoms (no denim or holes/rips)

Knee-length shorts (allowed before Fall Break and after Spring Break)

Dresses, skirts, shorts, and jumpers must be near knee-length

Solid color sweaters/sweatshirts may be worn over collared shirts

No hoodies, flip-flops, or “wheelie” shoes

Student ID badges must be visible at all times

Supply lists will be posted online and available in your school’s front office at the time of registration.
Each school shares this information differently. Most schools post class lists on the doors during the week before school starts. Check your school’s website or back-to-school communications for the exact date.
Bus information will be posted in your child’s Skyward account a few days before school starts. Because routes may change, we recommend checking the night before school begins. Bus details will also be verified during kindergarten Open House on July 29.
Please go ahead and enroll your child. Schools will work with families to ensure vaccines are updated on a proper timeline.
You are welcome to send lunch from home. Most kindergarteners enjoy the school menu—and often end up trying more foods at school than at home!
We try to seat younger students near the front of the bus. However, on routes with many kindergarten students, exact seating may vary.
