Guinevere Rugenstein
About Guinevere
“I may not have the best home life ever, but I still have a family here,.”
Southport High School 2023 grad, Guinevere Rugenstein has seen things in her lifetime that most people only see in movies. She says she was just five years old, when she found her father unconscious after a drug overdose. He passed away. Guinevere says her home was a place where she witnessed drug abuse, poverty, hunger…if she even had a home at all. Guinevere recalls experiencing homelessness and living in foster care. Amidst the darkness however, Guinevere was thriving in school.
Guinevere felt like she had a family at school. She even referred to her teachers as mentors. During high school, Guinevere was enrolled in AP and Dual Credit courses. She tried to stay as busy as possible, also participating in the marching band, The Journal, speech and debate and more! Her goal was to study nursing at Ball State University. Guinevere credits, in part, her time at Southport High School for her successes in life.
Where Are They Now?
Guinevere graduated from Southport with honors. After high school, she saw her biological mom in person for the first time in five years. She is currently enrolled at Ball State University in the pre-nursing program and holds a 3.4 GPA. She plans on moving into her first apartment soon.
